The Subwoofer Sounds "Hollow" or Lacks Punch

Weak or Missing Bass from the WiSA Cinema Subwoofer

If your Lithe Audio WiSA Cinema Subwoofer is connected and playing audio, but the bass feels weak, thin, or almost non-existent at your main seating position, this is often caused by:

Acoustic Phase Cancellation

Why This Happens

Phase cancellation can occur when:

  • The subwoofer is positioned behind the listening area
  • Ceiling speakers are positioned toward the front of the room
  • Low-frequency sound waves overlap and partially cancel each other out

This commonly affects bass frequencies around:

80Hz

As a result, the subwoofer may appear to be working, but the bass impact at the listening position is greatly reduced.

Recommended Fix – Adjust the LFE Settings

Using the Lithe Audio Cinema App

  1. Open the:

    Lithe Audio Cinema App

  2. Navigate to:

    Subwoofer Settings

  3. Adjust the following:

Set:

  • LFE Lowpass40Hz

Increase:

  • LFE Level

This can help improve bass integration and reduce cancellation effects.

Alternative Fix – Increase the Physical Gain

You can also adjust the subwoofer output directly on the subwoofer itself.

To Increase Bass Gain

  1. Locate the physical controls on the subwoofer.
  2. Press the:

    “+” Button

to increase the subwoofer gain/output level.

Additional Tips for Better Bass Performance

For optimal low-frequency performance:

  • Avoid placing the subwoofer directly behind seating positions
  • Experiment with room placement
  • Try moving the subwoofer closer to a wall or corner
  • Avoid placing the subwoofer inside enclosed cabinets
  • Fine-tune gain gradually to prevent distortion

Common Symptoms of Phase Cancellation

You may be experiencing this issue if:

  • Bass sounds strong in some areas of the room but weak in others
  • The subwoofer appears connected but lacks impact
  • Movie effects feel thin or flat
  • Bass disappears at the main seating position
  • Low frequencies fluctuate depending on where you stand

Adjusting the LFE settings and subwoofer gain typically resolves this issue in most installations.
